About the Work
INVADER — RUBIK KUBRICK
The image reconstructs a recognisable portrait through a strict matrix of coloured square units, evoking both Rubik’s Cube construction and low-resolution digital imagery. Warm skin tones, dark hair and a broad smile emerge only when the individual blocks are read collectively, producing a constant shift between abstraction and representation. Invader’s practice is rooted in the pixel as a basic visual unit, and this work extends that logic beyond his street mosaics into portraiture. The gridded surface also recalls early computer graphics, creating a playful dialogue between popular culture, analogue puzzles and digital visual language.
