About the Work
JAVIER CALLEJA — TOMORROW MORE, 2019
The sheet is organised like a page of sketches, combining several variations of Calleja’s child characters with handwritten notes, small objects and loose colour accents. A red-haired head, simplified standing figures and exploratory facial studies create the impression of an artist’s working notebook rather than a single finished scene. The pale ground and deliberately informal line preserve a sense of immediacy. This approach is particularly suited to Calleja’s vocabulary, revealing how his large eyes, rounded heads and understated humour can be recombined across multiple small motifs. The result bridges drawing, printed edition and visual record of studio thinking.
