About the Work
QI BAISHI — GOURD VINE WITH INSECTS
This later decorative edition revisits Qi Baishi’s *Gourd Vine with Insects*. Botanical stems extend through the vertical format in loose calligraphic lines, punctuated by fruit, leaves and a small insect motif that draws attention to close observation of nature. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The image reflects the East Asian ink tradition’s emphasis on expressive line, spatial breathing room and the suggestive power of abbreviated forms.
