About the Work
TŌSHŪSAI SHARAKU — SEGAWA KIKUNOJŌ III AS OSHIZU
The sheet reproduces the subject of Tōshūsai Sharaku’s *Segawa Kikunojō III as Oshizu* in a format intended for decorative display. The composition is dominated by a single theatrical figure, with an exaggerated facial expression, emphatic hands and sharply patterned costume conveying the intensity of kabuki performance. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The composition demonstrates the enduring visual appeal of Japanese print design, where atmosphere, pattern and concise storytelling operate together.
