About the Work
QI BAISHI — CHICKS
This later decorative edition revisits Qi Baishi’s *Chicks*. Small chicks are dispersed across the vertical sheet in a sequence of lively, economical marks, their varied poses giving the otherwise spare composition a playful rhythm. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The interplay of calligraphic line, tonal wash and open paper gives the composition a lyrical quality while preserving a strong decorative presence.
