About the Work
UTAGAWA KUNIYOSHI — CATS SUGGESTED AS THE FIFTY-THREE STATIONS OF THE TŌKAIDŌ
Based on the composition associated with Utagawa Kuniyoshi, *Cats Suggested as the Fifty-three Stations of the Tōkaidō* is presented here as a later printed edition. Numerous cats and small narrative motifs fill the broad composition, producing a playful, densely populated panorama that rewards close viewing. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The composition demonstrates the enduring visual appeal of Japanese print design, where atmosphere, pattern and concise storytelling operate together.
