About the Work
D*FACE — DOG SAVE THE QUEEN – PRINT
A black-and-white portrait of the British monarch is transformed through added cartoon elements: a small crown, wing-like ears and a tongue extending in a gesture of irreverence. The drawing preserves enough photographic detail for the sitter to remain immediately recognisable, while the interventions disrupt the formality of royal portraiture. D*Face’s street-art language frequently combines popular imagery, mortality motifs and comic-style additions. Here the contrast between institutional icon and playful defacement creates the work’s humour. The largely monochrome palette keeps attention on the graphic modifications and the collision between respectability and subcultural attitude.
