About the Work
UTAGAWA HIROSHIGE — SUDDEN SHOWER OVER SHIN-ŌHASHI BRIDGE AND ATAKE
Presented as a later facsimile after Utagawa Hiroshige, *Sudden Shower over Shin-Ōhashi Bridge and Atake* retains the visual structure of the recognised composition. Diagonal bands of rain cut across the scene, while figures move through the weather and the surrounding architecture is reduced to crisp, strongly directional forms. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The composition demonstrates the enduring visual appeal of Japanese print design, where atmosphere, pattern and concise storytelling operate together.
