About the Work
CHEN FEI — FIGURATIVE PRINT
A woman in a blue dress stands partly concealed within dense vegetation, surrounded by layered green leaves, vines and branching forms. Rather than separating figure and landscape, the composition allows the foliage to overlap and absorb the body, creating a complex decorative field. Small passages of pink, yellow and blue interrupt the prevailing greens and keep the eye moving through the image. The work’s pictorial tension comes from the contrast between a clearly legible human presence and an environment that threatens to engulf it, combining figurative narrative with an almost ornamental treatment of the natural setting.
