About the Work
LIU YE — BAMBOO BAMBOO
The work is constructed as a dark rectangular relief in which narrow vertical elements, incised lines and raised structural forms create a restrained architectural rhythm. Rather than relying on colour, the composition develops through subtle variations of depth, shadow and surface. The bamboo reference suggested by the title is reduced to an abstract system of stems or linear divisions, balancing organic association with geometric order. The monochrome presentation gives the panel a meditative quality and invites close attention to texture. As photographed, the piece reads less as conventional image than as a tactile object occupying the boundary between painting and relief sculpture.
