About the Work
UTAGAWA KUNIYOSHI — KABUKI ACTOR WITH A GIANT CARP
This decorative print interprets Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s *Kabuki Actor with a Giant Carp* through a clean, display-oriented presentation. The composition is dominated by a single theatrical figure, with an exaggerated facial expression, emphatic hands and sharply patterned costume conveying the intensity of kabuki performance. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The image reflects the Japanese print tradition’s ability to combine narrative clarity with disciplined pattern, contour and negative space.
