About the Work
XU BEIHONG — GALLOPING HORSE
This later decorative edition revisits Xu Beihong’s *Galloping Horse*. The horse motif is rendered with energetic, economical brush-like contours, concentrating attention on the animal’s movement, muscular body and sweeping mane and tail. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The image reflects the East Asian ink tradition’s emphasis on expressive line, spatial breathing room and the suggestive power of abbreviated forms.
