About the Work
JEFF KOONS — BALLOON DOG – PORCELAIN EDITION
The sculpture takes the instantly recognisable form of a balloon dog, modelled with the inflated segments and pinched joints of a twisted party balloon. Its deep metallic-blue surface is highly reflective, turning the surrounding environment into shifting highlights across the rounded body. Koons’s balloon-animal imagery elevates an ephemeral object associated with childhood entertainment into a polished sculptural icon. In this reduced edition format, the tension between playful subject and carefully manufactured finish remains central. The compact scale also reinforces the work’s status as an art multiple designed for domestic display, while preserving the monumentality of the original silhouette.
