About the Work
LIN FENGMIAN — OPERA FIGURES
The sheet reproduces the subject of Lin Fengmian’s *Opera Figures* in a format intended for decorative display. Two stylised stage figures stand against a dark, painterly field, their elongated bodies, mask-like faces and saturated costume accents creating a theatrical, modernist composition. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. Its combination of expressive brush-like marks and carefully controlled emptiness translates effectively into a display-oriented decorative print.
