About the Work
KAWASE HASUI — ZŌJŌJI TEMPLE IN SHIBA
This later decorative edition revisits Kawase Hasui’s *Zōjōji Temple in Shiba*. The architectural silhouette of the sacred site is framed by seasonal weather, with strong verticals and carefully controlled colour contrasts giving the scene a quiet, cinematic presence. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. Its balance of flattened space, decisive contour and carefully controlled detail gives the sheet a strong graphic quality suited to contemporary interiors.
