About the Work
ZHANG XIAOGANG — BLOODLINE SERIES – PRINT
Three frontal figures are arranged shoulder to shoulder against a softly blurred grey background, with the central child picked out in vivid red tones. The adults’ pale faces and formal clothing frame the smaller figure, whose colour creates an immediate emotional and compositional focus. The family-group structure and restrained expressions correspond to the visual language associated with Zhang Xiaogang’s Bloodline imagery, where photographic conventions are used to explore memory, kinship and collective identity. Smooth modelling and deliberate stillness give the scene the detached atmosphere of an archival studio portrait, while the red intervention unsettles its apparent calm.
