About the Work
MEGURU YAMAGUCHI — OUT OF BOUNDS – PRINT
A burst of coloured lines projects diagonally across a white ground, creating the impression of a brushstroke or splash released from the constraints of a flat surface. Blues, reds, yellows and darker strands overlap in a dense central passage before dispersing into thinner extensions. Yamaguchi’s Out of Bounds language is associated with energetic painted forms that appear to break beyond conventional pictorial edges. In this image, the mass of colour behaves almost sculpturally, giving the composition a strong sense of velocity and depth. The result occupies a productive space between gestural abstraction, graphic design and street-informed contemporary painting.
