About the Work
ZHANG DAQIAN — RED LOTUS
This later decorative edition revisits Zhang Daqian’s *Red Lotus*. Lotus stems, leaves and blossoms organise the sheet through alternating areas of dense ink and open paper, with the floral forms providing both rhythm and a strong vertical accent. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The image reflects the East Asian ink tradition’s emphasis on expressive line, spatial breathing room and the suggestive power of abbreviated forms.
