About the Work
YAYOI KUSAMA — PUMPKIN (WHITE / RED)
The pumpkin form is rendered in white fabric or a soft sculptural material covered with Kusama’s red polka-dot system. Large circular dots run along the segmented ribs, while finer fields of smaller marks fill the spaces between them; a spotted curved stem completes the silhouette. Unlike the hard glossy surface of many pumpkin editions, the supplied image suggests a softer, more tactile object, making material confirmation important during physical cataloguing. Visually, the work retains Kusama’s characteristic transformation of a familiar organic form through obsessive repetition, using the contrast of white and red to create a strong rhythmic surface.
