About the Work
CHEN KE — YOUNG GIRL – PRINT
A young girl in a patterned dress occupies the lower right of a large blue-grey field, her face largely hidden behind a red rectangular form. Dark and white passages along the lower edge create a hazy, unstable ground, while the isolated figure seems to emerge from or disappear into the surrounding atmosphere. The image balances childhood imagery with psychological ambiguity, a tension associated with Chen Ke’s figurative practice. The blocked face prevents straightforward portraiture, shifting attention toward posture, colour and emotional distance. The result is quiet yet unsettling, with the red rectangle acting as the composition’s dominant visual interruption.
