About the Work
DANIEL ARSHAM — HOLLOW FIGURE, 2018
Hollow Figure presents what initially appears to be a human body completely covered by draped fabric, the folds captured in an opaque white cast surface. Seen as an object, however, the figure is conceived as an absence: Arsham’s design reveals a hollow reverse rather than a conventional solid body. The work translates his Architectural Anomaly series into a reduced sculptural edition and concentrates his recurring interest in voids, architecture and unstable material reality. Its monochrome finish gives the folds an almost classical appearance, while the conceptual emptiness behind them shifts the sculpture from representation toward a meditation on presence and disappearance.
