About the Work
BE@RBRICK / MEDICOM TOY — JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT 1000%
The familiar BE@RBRICK silhouette is covered in a dark red, black and white pattern derived from Basquiat’s expressive marks and imagery. Transparent or glossy areas reveal the figure’s articulated construction, while the repeated bear format provides a controlled framework for the energetic surface design. The work demonstrates how Medicom Toy collaborations transform a standard collectible body into a vehicle for established artistic vocabularies. Here Basquiat-associated graphics are transferred from the two-dimensional realm of painting and drawing onto a three-dimensional pop object, creating a hybrid of licensed art imagery, industrial design and contemporary collecting culture.
