About the Work
KAWASE HASUI — RAIN AT MAEKAWA IN SŌSHŪ
This later decorative edition revisits Kawase Hasui’s *Rain at Maekawa in Sōshū*. Diagonal bands of rain cut across the scene, while figures move through the weather and the surrounding architecture is reduced to crisp, strongly directional forms. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. Its balance of flattened space, decisive contour and carefully controlled detail gives the sheet a strong graphic quality suited to contemporary interiors.
