About the Work
JAMES JEAN — SLINGSHOT
A small dark figure sits low to the ground with one knee raised, holding a slingshot or similarly slender object across the body. The childlike character is modelled with a rounded head and simplified features, while a single warm-coloured eye provides a subtle point of contrast against the predominantly black surface. Jean’s sculptural editions often condense narrative suggestion into compact, carefully posed figures, and this work is no exception. The crouched posture produces a sense of alertness and contained action, inviting the viewer to imagine an episode beyond the isolated object while still appreciating its silhouette as sculpture.
