RON ENGLISH — MC SUPERSIZED
Ron English’s corpulent fast-food mascot stands frontally in a red, yellow and white uniform, his broad grin and inflated body exaggerating the reassuring language of commercial character design. Familiar branding cues are distorted into satire, turning a corporate icon into a figure of excess. The glossy sculptural surface and bright primary colours preserve the appeal of a mass-market toy even as the proportions become deliberately unsettling. This tension is central to English’s Pop Surrealist practice, where advertising imagery is appropriated and mutated to expose contradictions within consumer culture, branding and the production of desire.
