About the Work
WANG KEPING — FIGURE – BRONZE/RESIN MULTIPLE
The sculpture reduces the human body to a compact, vertically stacked dark form. A broad irregular head sits above simplified torso and lower sections, with only minimal modelling to indicate anatomy. The roughened, hand-shaped appearance contrasts with the polished finish of many commercial multiples and recalls the direct carving language associated with Wang Keping’s sculptural practice. Viewed against a neutral ground, the figure reads strongly as silhouette, with subtle asymmetries supplying character. Its economy of means gives the work a totemic presence, balancing abstraction with enough bodily reference to remain unmistakably figurative.
