DANIEL ARSHAM — ERODED PORSCHE – MINIATURE MULTIPLE
A white miniature Porsche is presented as though partially weathered or eroded, with irregular grey crystalline-looking areas interrupting the otherwise clean automotive body. The familiar curves of the car remain immediately legible, creating a tension between pristine industrial design and simulated archaeological decay. Arsham’s fictional-archaeology sculptures repeatedly imagine contemporary objects as future relics, and the model-car format makes that temporal displacement especially direct. The work also reflects contemporary collectible culture, where luxury-design icons are reduced in scale and recontextualised as art objects rather than functional machines.
