About the Work
MARK RYDEN — YHWH
A slender pale-pink creature rises vertically from a narrow base, its elongated body interrupted by several small human-like faces. Long ear- or horn-like forms project from the top, strengthening the work’s surreal and dreamlike character. The almost monochrome pastel surface keeps attention on the unusual anatomy rather than decorative detail. Ryden’s broader visual world frequently combines innocence, biological distortion and devotional stillness, and this figure reflects that atmosphere in three dimensions. The sculpture’s calm presentation contrasts with the disquieting multiplication of features, creating an object that appears simultaneously delicate, humorous and faintly uncanny.
