About the Work
SESSHŪ TŌYŌ — WINTER LANDSCAPE
Based on the composition associated with Sesshū Tōyō, *Winter Landscape* is presented here as a later printed edition. Layered peaks, trees and waterways are organised through alternating dense ink-like passages and pale atmospheric areas, creating depth without relying on conventional Western perspective. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The image reflects the Japanese print tradition’s ability to combine narrative clarity with disciplined pattern, contour and negative space.
