About the Work
QI BAISHI — CRABS
This decorative print interprets Qi Baishi’s *Crabs* through a clean, display-oriented presentation. The aquatic creatures are defined with quick, calligraphic lines and translucent ink-like washes, allowing antennae, legs and segmented bodies to animate the open paper. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The interplay of calligraphic line, tonal wash and open paper gives the composition a lyrical quality while preserving a strong decorative presence.
