About the Work
HIRO ANDO — SUMOCAT
A glossy red cat-like figure stands upright with arms folded across a broad torso, combining the rounded mass of a lucky-cat or mascot form with the assertiveness of a contemporary character sculpture. The monochrome surface is exceptionally smooth and reflective, allowing highlights to articulate the ears, face, belly and limbs. Ando’s Sumocat imagery often blends Japanese popular iconography with urban and luxury-object aesthetics. In this edition, the absence of additional colour makes silhouette and attitude central: the figure reads at once as humorous, self-confident and deliberately monumental despite its collectible scale.
