LEE BUL — UNTITLED – CC, 2023
Untitled – CC presents an irregular cyborg-like form isolated on a pale sheet, its copper-bearing surface marked by green and brown oxidation. The figure appears neither fully anatomical nor mechanical, instead hovering between body fragment, industrial component and archaeological remnant. Lee Bul’s long-running engagement with cyborgs examines ideals of technological perfection alongside the instability of the human body. In this 2023 print, copper powder is integral to the image rather than merely decorative: oxidation produces naturally variable patina, ensuring subtle differences between impressions. The work therefore combines printmaking with an active material process that continues to evoke transformation and decay.
