About the Work
DAIDO MORIYAMA — SHINJUKU – PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT
A rain-darkened city street stretches across the foreground in high-contrast black and white. Reflections from signage and streetlights break across the wet pavement, while small figures and urban details recede into a dense background of buildings and illuminated advertisements. Moriyama’s photography is associated with grain, blur, strong contrast and the restless experience of the modern city, and this image retains that sense of immediacy even in reproduction. The tilted reflections and compressed night scene transform an ordinary street into a graphic field of light and shadow, capturing both the anonymity and visual intensity of Shinjuku.
