About the Work
XU BEIHONG — RUNNING HORSES
This decorative print interprets Xu Beihong’s *Running Horses* through a clean, display-oriented presentation. The horse motif is rendered with energetic, economical brush-like contours, concentrating attention on the animal’s movement, muscular body and sweeping mane and tail. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The interplay of calligraphic line, tonal wash and open paper gives the composition a lyrical quality while preserving a strong decorative presence.
