About the Work
HEBRU BRANTLEY — FLYBOY
A goggled child figure rides a cartoon rocket whose pointed nose, small fins and fiery exhaust create a clear sense of forward movement. The seated character wears a cap, white shirt and dark shorts, while the grey projectile is enlivened by a simple eye-like marking. Brantley’s Flyboy universe often combines youthful protagonists with heroic or aviation-related imagery, and this sculptural version turns that narrative into a compact collectible. The piece balances playful toy aesthetics with the artist’s broader engagement with representation, aspiration and popular visual culture, using exaggerated proportions to make the figure immediately legible from multiple angles.
