About the Work
HASEGAWA TŌHAKU — MONKEYS IN A GROVE
This later decorative edition revisits Hasegawa Tōhaku’s *Monkeys in a Grove*. Monkeys occupy twisting branches within a softly articulated grove, combining animated animal observation with a loose, atmospheric treatment of foliage. The supplied photograph shows the image clearly and supports the identification of the principal subject and orientation. Rather than treating the sheet as a period impression or unique work, the catalogue presents it conservatively as a later decorative reproduction, keeping the visual description separate from questions of authorship, date and edition. The composition demonstrates the enduring visual appeal of Japanese print design, where atmosphere, pattern and concise storytelling operate together.
